MA can stay in MA

This weekend we went up to see friends of ours in Massachussettes. First of all, it was a nightmare and made no sense. It was DG's 30th birthday and his fiancee put the party together. All of HIS friends and family is from NY. So we all had to trek our asses up there for a tedious 5 hour drive for a very boring party. The kid was ok in the car, but he refused to sleep in the hotel room. At 12:30 in the morning we had to drive him around the middle of nowhere to get him to sleep. Then he still woke up at normal time so you can only imagine how cranky he was.

But what i really wanted to talk about is their arrangement. Her mom lives up there and he is from long island. She has an average run of the mill job that pays ok. Not great. He works for a very large brokerage firm in technology and is doing pretty good. He has an arrangement with his boss that he works 1 week remotely and the next he goes into the office. So every weekend he drives either to or from Massachuusettes. The husband works with him and he even says that the arrangement is good for now, but if he wanted to move up it probably wouldnt work. To be a manager you have to have a lot of face time. I mean, the husband is a manager and works from home once a week and he says that he even shouldnt be doing that.

These two are getting married in March. How can this kind of thing be a healthy relationship. We were all talking (not the couple) about this and we were talking about how the fiancee has been 'better' since all of this. We are assuming its because she is getting what she wants.

I dont know. Its just weird to me. What also gets me is that they keep saying how they want us to come up and see them more often. After this past weekend, I think the next and last time we see them in that state is at their wedding. If they want to see us, they need to come closer to us. Plus, they dont need to deal with a child. I just told them that when they have a kid, then they can put demands and see how hard it really is.

Also, i dont think I have ever heard the husband complain so much about traveling.
